A Condition That Affects Men and Boys
Gynecomastia is a condition that affects men and boys. It occurs when the breasts swell and become abnormally large. Up to seventy percent of boys in their early to mid-puberty experience gynecomastia because of the change in hormones. Up to sixty-five percent of men are affected. We are proud to assist patients in Orange County, Mission Viejo, Dallas, and the surrounding communities achieve the results they are looking for.
Many males can be embarrassed by having gynecomastia. Although it is typically not a health threat, it can cause males to be self conscious about their body. In some men, it can be a sign of low testosterone, cirrhosis of the liver, an overactive thyroid, or even some cancers. Certain medications can also cause gynecomastia.
We will be happy to sit down with you during a private consultation and speak about your goals. We will answer any questions that you have about the surgery, and the recovery process.
On the day of surgery, you will be placed under anesthesia for your comfort during the procedure. If the gynecomastia is the result of fatty tissue, liposuction alone may be used. This will require an insertion of a cannula through several small incisions. The cannula is moved back and forth to loosen excess fat, which can then be removed from the body. Excision techniques are recommended when your glandular breast tissue must be removed to correct gynecomastia.
